What started as a quest turned into inspiration
Inspiration
It all started with a search for organic underwear without elastane. It turned out to be virtually non-existent. So we began investigating whether we could perhaps make it ourselves, and soon the inspiration followed to start making clothing from natural (organic) fabrics and launch a business. From our studio in Rolde (Drenthe), we create and sell clothing made from natural materials that feels nice and comfortable.
Sustainable and natural
We have found beautiful fabrics, organic, made from natural materials, natural rubber elastic, and buttons made of wood and shells. We create clothing and accessories ourselves from these materials.
Along the way, we came across a few beautiful clothing brands with a similar mission, and we decided to sell them in our atelier/shop: Drentewol, Hirsch-Natur, Jalfe, and more. All the clothing we sell is organic, elastane-free, as sustainable as possible, biodegradable, and produced in Europe with fair working conditions. For sustainability reasons, we have opted for a small, non-fashion-sensitive 'basics' collection consisting of items that will last for years, combined with custom-made clothing.
Personal contact
Simone makes custom-made clothing for clients, on order. It brings great pleasure and satisfaction to be in contact with the person who will wear the garment you made. Conversely, it is also wonderful to know who makes your clothes. It infuses the garment with a different energy. That is missing in mass production, where there is no contact between the person making the clothes and the person who ultimately wears them.
Our goal is to make and sell clothing that makes you feel good in every way. Sometimes it takes a little courage to wear what suits you, instead of blindly following prevailing fashion.
We are happy to help you by looking together at what essentially suits you in terms of style, size, model, material, and color. In this way, the clothing you wear is supportive and a pure expression of yourself.
Materials
Our clothing is made from 100% natural, organic materials such as cotton, wool, hemp, and linen.
Without the use of synthetic components such as elastane, lycra, polyester, etc. The elastic we use is made of natural rubber, and the buttons are made of wood, coconut, and shells.
Natural recycling
Beautiful and comfortable combined with sustainable, it is simply possible! Our aim is for Aards clothing and underwear to end up on the compost heap after serving its purpose. Although we are well on our way, we are not there yet. While the fabrics used are usually GOTS certified, this does not necessarily mean they are naturally dyed. One of the goals we would like to achieve in the future is for the fabrics to be naturally dyed.
Method
In our studio, we will look together at what suits you best in terms of style, size, model, material, and color. Which clothing supports you, and what brings out your strengths? Then we will take your measurements and get to work for you. An intermediate fitting may be necessary, but this is not always required.
You will receive a message when the clothing is ready, and then you can pick it up from us in Rolde.
